Here’s what REAL Leadership looks like.
When I was Brand Director at Nike, we got a new Marketing Director.
In her first week, she sat her leadership team down to have an introductory meeting.
Her talk went something like this:
I work hard. But my family is my priority.
I will leave here each day by 5.30pm so I can pick up my kids, spend time with them and feed/bath/put them to bed.
If you need me, Im happy to jump back online after 8.30pm.
But not before, as this is family time.
I expect you to prioritise your time accordingly as well.
If you need to work late, do it.
But take the time back. Come in later the next day if you need to. Or finish early the next day.
If you have families, protect your time with them.
You are adults. You run your schedule.
But make sure you find balance.

The great thing is - she lived by the words she spoke.
I have never forgotten that meeting. And I have always tried to lead with the same example she set.
